A Manager’s Guide: Understanding, Preventing and Responding to Workplace Harassment Reports
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
This half-day workshop is designed specifically for people managers and leaders, equipping them with the tools and confidence to recognise workplace harassment in its various forms — including bullying and sexual harassment. Through case studies and guided discussions, managers will learn how to distinguish inappropriate behaviour from respectful workplace interactions and understand the impact of harassment on team morale and productivity.
The workshop also focuses on how managers should respond to staff reports of harassment with empathy, fairness, and professionalism. Participants will explore the balance between being approachable and supportive while maintaining neutrality, ensuring that staff feel heard without judgment.
Managers will be guided through their responsibilities under their organisation’s grievance handling procedures, avoiding pitfalls such as comments or questions that may appear victim-blaming or judgemental. Participants will understand how to protect employees while minimising risks to the organisation. Practical exercises, cheat-sheets and role-plays will help them apply step-by-step approaches, including suggested phrases and strategies for effective conversations.
