Empathetic & Compliant: HR’s Guide to Grievance Handling

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

This half-day workshop is tailored for HR professionals who play a critical role in managing employee grievances, including sensitive harassment reports. Participants will gain clarity on the principles of fair grievance management, learning how to balance empathy for employees with the need to maintain professionalism and consistency. The session highlights how effective grievance handling can strengthen trust and contribute to a respectful workplace culture.

The workshop places a strong emphasis on practical application, using case studies and real-life examples to illustrate how grievances typically unfold and how HR can respond at each stage. Participants will analyse challenging scenarios to practice trouble-shooting techniques (e.g. how to manage an employee’s expectations if they are unreasonable), sharpening their ability to navigate complex issues with confidence.

To ensure participants leave with tangible skills, the workshop introduces a step-by-step grievance handling framework. This includes practical techniques for conducting interviews, suggested phrases for responding with empathy and neutrality, and guidance on applying company policies and codes of conduct consistently. The session equips HR professionals to manage sensitive cases effectively while minimising risk to the organisation.
