Understanding, Preventing and Responding to Workplace Harassment

 

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

This full-day workshop is designed specifically for people managers and HR, to help participants build awareness on what constitutes inappropriate behaviour contrary to their company’s code of conduct, and building knowledge on how to respond to reports of inappropriate behaviour by members of their teams.  

It is essential for people managers and HR to be familiar with de-escalation techniques when responding to staff reports of inappropriate behaviour with empathy, fairness and professionalism. Participants will explore the balance between being approachable and supportive while maintaining neutrality, ensuring that staff feel heard without judgment.

Participants will be guided through their responsibilities under their organisation’s grievance handling procedures, avoiding pitfalls such as comments or questions that may appear victim-blaming or judgemental.  They will also learn how to safeguard their company’s safe working environment while minimising risks to the organisation.

This full-day workshop includes a simulation exercise where the participants will try to manage a grievance using the techniques covered during the workshop. 

These practical exercises will help participants feel more confident when faced with reports of harassment, bullying or discrimination from their team members.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise workplace harassment, including bullying and sexual harassment, and understand its impact.

  • Respond empathetically and fairly when team members raise harassment concerns.

  • Apply the organisation’s grievance handling procedures correctly and consistently.

  • Use practical phrases and approaches to handle sensitive conversations with confidence.

  • Support a respectful and safe workplace culture while protecting the organisation from risk.
